Pitt St Skatepark - Portsmouth – Meanwhile, we’re getting tactical
What is it?
Calling all skate community organisers, skatepark campaigners, coaches and local heroes!
Skateboard GB and Pitt St Skatepark are stoked to invite you to Portsmouth’s premier skatepark-in-a-supermarket for a day of talking, learning, working and skating together.
On Saturday 28 February, from 14:00 to 22:00, join us for:
A talk from SBGB’s Chris Lawton on opportunities for funding skate projects in 2026, based on some of the latest grants and government policy advice, followed by a Q&A
A workshop to sit together, get hands-on and help each other progress grant funding applications
A panel talk on how we can sustain and grow DIY and meanwhile projects, the skills we gain from this work, and links with the new National Youth Strategy
A screening of ‘Concrete Law’, the new film by April Jones @dream_evil_pictures about grassroots activism and policy discourse to protect and sustain Channel Street DIY skatepark.
This free event will celebrate all the “tactical” work skaters do in cities and towns, including: clubbing together to run a meanwhile space like Pitt Street, The Warehouse or Shredenhams; building DIY skateparks in disused inner city spaces like Bournbrook or The Grove; replacing dilapidated public skateparks with volunteers, as the Isle of Wight skaters have done in Ryde and Ventnor; or filling gaps in youth provision after a council’s financial crisis like the skaters in Nottingham.
The awesome Pitt Street skatepark will be available to skate, with prizes, food and drinks, and hanging out with other skate heroes until late. Thanks to Jake and everyone at Pitt Street for reaching out to do this together.
