Job Opportunity: Community Development Lead

Skateboard GB are looking to appoint an experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Community Development Lead to deliver against the community elements of the Skate More and Skateable Spaces pillars in the Skateboard GB Strategic Plan. We’re looking for someone with a genuine passion for people and skateboarding. You’ll play a key role in supporting communities, building partnerships and helping skateboarding grow across the country.

Key Purpose of Role

  • Lead on delivering against the community elements of the Skate More and Skateable Spaces pillars in the Skateboard GB Strategic Plan.
  • Lead SBGB’s support of the development of the skateboarding system at a grassroots and community level, in order to tackle inequalities between regions and population groups.
  • Raise the capacity and capability of skateboarding community organisations through information assets training and empowerment to deliver and sustain excellent, inclusive skateboarding activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for grassroots/community skateboarding and Sport England Development Goals relevant to ‘tackling inequalities’ at Skateboard GB.
  • Develop, review and update advice and guidance (e.g. information assets and tools) on topics such as governance and funding for skate organisations.
  • Work with the national network of community skate organisations to support them in sustaining their activities.
  • Develop the benefits available to skate organisations as part of the SBGB membership offer.
  • Using the Impact Evaluation Framework, work with the Head of Community to produce the Sport England 6 monthly report, as well as other evaluation reports required by funders.
  • Respond to enquiries (phone and email) from member skate organisations, the wider skate community and other stakeholders, e.g. Local Government and Active Partnerships.
  • Work with the Head of Community and Skateable Spaces Lead to develop and implement a process for managing and servicing enquiries effectively and efficiently.
  • Work closely with the Engagement Team to raise the awareness and profile of the Communities Team across the UK skate community.
  • Play an active role in promoting best practices and ensuring policies and standards are embedded in relation to equality and safeguarding relating to both children/young people & adults.
  • Support and lead on other tasks as required by the business in consideration of skills, knowledge, and experience.

Person Specification

Required skills and experience

  • Experience of working in or with non-profit organisations, including providing support with areas such as writing funding applications and programming.
  • Experience of starting, developing and evaluating, either voluntary or grant funded projects.
  • Experience in managing projects and delivering on agreed outcomes.
  • Able to effectively build relationships with key partners both within and outside of skateboarding.
  • Experience of building and developing partnerships with different public or private sector organisations.
  • Have developed and delivered learning opportunities and training both formally and informally.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good inter-personal skills and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively on digital assets, policies and reports.

 

Required knowledge

  • High level knowledge of skateboarding and its community and culture, spaces and places.
  • An understanding of the culture of skateboarding and/or other action sports.
  • Knowledge of the sport and physical activity landscape in the UK including Sport England strategies and initiatives.
  • Be a lifelong learner and up to date with sector changes and other relevant policy changes that impact skateboarding.

Essential Information

Duration
Full-time, fixed term contract until March 2027. SBGB anticipate the contract being extended beyond 2027 and are in the process of securing future funding.

 

Remuneration
£35,000 / Workplace pension contribution / 25 days holiday per year plus statutory days.

 

Hours of Work
Flexible 37-hour week which represents full-time hours. Flexibility is required to work evenings and weekends.

 

Base
Working from Home, with national travel at least twice a month required
