On Saturday 13th April, 10am-7pm, Flip Park Notts will open at the Nottingham Contemporary and the Tram Line Spot skate space. Hosted in partnership with Skate Nottingham, and supported by Skateboard GB, the event aims to bring the buzz and success of London Flip Park across the country and to a city rich with skateboarding history and community, as well as supporting local partners within Nottingham’s scene.
Samsung recognises skateboarding as sharing its ‘tu-hon’ philosophy, which roughly translates to trying again and again. Like Samsung, who over the decades, have diversified across sectors, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in consumer electronics, the home, and artificial intelligence, skaters new or experienced try and fall countless times before they get a trick right.
Built around flagship devices, like Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy S24, which support skaters to capture and create the best content, Flip Park Notts celebrates skateboarding across the many aspects of skate culture.
The event is free and brings together some of the biggest and best names in skateboarding, from the local Nottingham scene and beyond. Local partners include Supereight, Forty Two Shop, Honest Skateboards & Montana Shop. The day will explore various elements of skateboarding, including skateboard design workshops, panel discussions, yoga for skaters, and skate photography workshops – including a session led by Olympic skate photographer Garry Jones, who will award the most creative photo with a special Samsung prize. Special guest speakers including Léo Valls, a key voice in skate urbanism, Daryl Nobbs & Helena Long, will join other local speakers on two panel discussions to explore topics around skate-friendly cities & careers in the skate industry.
Throughout the day there will be free skateboard coaching for all abilities (ages 7+), including a women & girls’ skate session by Skate Nottingham’s female-led Skate Hive. The day will culminate with a skate jam hosted by local skater-owned shop Forty-Two Shop, where people of all ages & abilities will skate Tram Line Spot for the chance to win prizes – including Samsung products as well as product from Forty Two. Renowned skaters like Ashley Mercer, of TikTok fame, pro skater Josh Mayson, and 2-time National Champion – and Notts local – Miriam Nelson will be ripping at Tram Line Spot throughout the day.
