Skateboard GB Secures UK Sport Funding to Build on Olympic Success

Skateboard GB is proud to announce it has been awarded £2,550,000 from UK Sport for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle, marking a continued investment in the growth of skateboarding in Great Britain.

This funding will allow Skateboard GB to further develop the systems and structures established during the Tokyo and Paris Olympic cycles, ensuring sustainability and future success for the sport. The investment is a testament to the progress Skateboard GB has made as a National Governing Body over the last six years, culminating in highlights such as three skateboarders representing Team GB at Paris 2024 and Sky Brown’s second Olympic bronze medal.

The funding will be instrumental in augmenting our talent and performance approach, fostering the next generation of skateboarders, and ensuring a cohesive and thriving pathway.

Skateboard GB remains committed to developing a robust framework that not only benefits skateboarders but also strengthens the overall infrastructure of the sport.

James Hope-Gill, Chief Executive of Skateboard GB, said “We are delighted to receive this grant funding from UK Sport which gives us the opportunity to continue to build the performance system to support talented skaters targeting the Olympic Games in LA in 2028.”

Darren Pearcy, Performance Manager at Skateboard GB, said “This funding represents a crucial step forward, enabling us to enhance the foundation we’ve built over the last two Olympic cycles. It allows us to further invest in the systems, expertise and support needed to support our skaters and to ensure British skateboarding continues to thrive at Olympic level. Our focus is on creating a world-class environment that nurtures talent and promotes both fun and success. A heartfelt thank you to UK Sport for their continued trust and investment in Skateboard GB”.
