Subway extends partnership with Skateboard GB to support skateboarding in the UK
Subway and Skateboard GB have announced a two-year continuation of their national partnership, building on a year of impactful collaboration that has strengthened facilities and skateboarding communities across the UK. Together, the organisations have supported six major skateboarding projects, helping them open their doors to thousands of new and returning skateboarders. These projects, spanning indoor and outdoor spaces, community led builds and refurbished facilities, have collectively welcomed over 8,000 people on their launch days and have a combined footfall of more than 300,000 visitors per year, demonstrating the scale of demand for accessible, inclusive skate spaces.
This summer, the partnership expanded further with the launch of the Subway Skate Fund, a first-of-its-kind national funding pot designed to inject tens of thousands of pounds directly into grassroots skateboarding. Two projects have already been awarded support, marking the first step in the Fund’s wider ambition to invest directly in skateboarding communities across the UK.
The Fund is designed to support a broad range of skateboarding projects, from new obstacles and community programmes to creative initiatives, events and local scene development. Crucially, it is open to individuals, unincorporated groups and community organisers, helping reduce traditional barriers to accessing funding and empowering skaters to shape their own environments.
The renewed partnership reflects Subway’s continued commitment to supporting skateboarding in the UK. From supporting new facilities and coaching opportunities to celebrating local skate cultures and investing directly through the Subway Skate Fund, the partnership is helping ensure that skateboarding remains accessible, inclusive and driven by the communities that shape it.
James Hope‑Gill, CEO of Skateboard GB, said: “Our partnership with Subway has already delivered meaningful change for skateboarding communities across the UK. The six projects we’ve supported together show what happens when you invest in spaces that are built by and for skateboarders. The launch of the Subway Skate Fund takes that commitment even further and we’re excited to continue this journey and support even more communities in the months ahead.”
Kirstey Elston, Senior Marketing Director at Subway UK & Ireland, said: “We’re proud to continue our partnership with Skateboard GB and deepen our investment in the future of UK skateboarding. The response to the projects we have supported so far has been incredible, and it’s clear how much these spaces mean to local communities. The Subway Skate Fund is our way of helping even more people access spaces that let them live more active lifestyles, and we can’t wait to see the ideas, projects and stories that emerge from this next phase.”
The partnership between the two brands will mark a combined four-year partnership leading into the LA28 Olympics, where skateboarding will once again be one of the headlining urban sports at the games.
