UK Skateboarding hits the Jackpot

Skateboarding across the UK is set to benefit from money donated by Jackpot; the purpose led independent peanut butter brand.  Skateboard GB will receive a percentage of every product sold of Rough-Cut peanut butter by Jackpot, with the money providing funding for DIY and skateable spaces across the country.

Jackpot was originally created as a fictional peanut butter brand on a T-shirt for skate company APN created by Founder Rupert Leigh.  As the idea grew, Rupert decided that actually making peanut butter for real as a way to offer a great tasting nutritious product and at the same time generate support and donations to grassroots skate and music culture was the way forward. A big believer in the importance of a thriving grassroots skate and music culture, he recognised the need for investment to skateable spaces and agreed that a percentage of turnover would help to build and protect these skateboard areas.

The growth of DIY and other skateable spaces over the last few years has been huge, with skateboarders dissatisfied with the often poor facilities available in their local area, creating their own spaces to skate by building ramps in disused areas of town and cities.

Skateboard GB recently merged with Skateboard England, and last year helped advise over 200 skateparks around the UK, as well as creating the first official Skateboarding Facilities guidance in this country to help the building of better skateable spaces.

James Hope-Gill, CEO at Skateboard GB, said “This is fantastic news for the skateboarding community, with a healthy food brand using its sales to help sustain the growth of DIY skateboard spaces around the UK. Last year we saw the largest growth in skateboarding participation in 20 years, so this has come a good time to help grow these type of facilities”.

Rupert Leigh says’ “We recognize that skateboarding is a great way to keep healthy, active and connected to a great community.  We are really excited to launch this partnership with SBGB at a time when this is more important than ever. We are launching a new limited edition peanut butter flavour ‘Cookies and Cream’ in June to mark our 5th anniversary to further increase donations to SBGB building on our purpose of ‘the wellbeing of all people from our pot to the planet’” .

Jackpot is currently stocked by Ocado, Wholefoods, Amazon and independents and skate shops nationwide and a donation from every pot of peanut butter sold will go towards creating better skateboard facilities in the UK.
