A fund created specifically to support skateboarding in the UK is launching today
The UK’s first dedicated nation-wide commercial fund for skateboarding projects launches today, created through the partnership between Skateboard GB and Subway. The initiative marks a major milestone for the growth of grassroots skateboarding, offering £15,000 in open* funding for any type of skateboard related project; from community programmes and creative initiatives to new obstacles, events, or coaching programmes.
Designed to be more accessible than many traditional funding routes, the Subway Skate Fund is not tied to location, organisation type, or project category. It is open to unincorporated groups, community organisers, and individual skateboarders, removing barriers that have historically limited access to support.
The fund builds on an established partnership between Subway and Skateboard GB to expand skateboarding across the UK. Together, they have already supported six skatepark projects in local communities, welcoming several thousand people on launch days and demonstrating strong demand for accessible, community‑driven skate spaces.
James Hope-Gill, CEO of Skateboard GB, said:
“This fund is a landmark moment for skateboarding in the UK. For the first time, anyone with a great idea to support their local scene can access funding without restrictive criteria. Skateboarding thrives when creativity and community lead the way, and this fund is designed to empower exactly that.”
Kirstey Elston, Senior Director of Marketing at Subway, said:
“Through our Fresh Moves programme, we’re committed to helping create more opportunities for people to get active in ways that feel relevant and accessible to them. Our partnership with Skateboard GB allows us to support communities at the heart of Subway, whether that’s improving local spaces, widening access, or helping new participants get involved. We’re excited to see the positive impact this fund will have across the UK.”
Applications open today and will close on Friday 26 June. Following the application window, Skateboard GB and Subway will review and shortlist submissions, with the first successful project expected to be announced in mid-July. The Fund aims to support projects that strengthen local scenes, widen participation, and celebrate the culture and creativity at the heart of skateboarding.
* T&Cs apply. Full eligibility criteria and requirements will be outlined in the application process.
