A new interactive public art project is set to transform Southampton’s Guildhall Square this summer.
Developed by Steve Béga and Rich Holland in partnership with John Hansard Gallery, Scribble combines large-scale interactive sculptures with a programme of creative events, inviting people to skate, create, and play together.
What began as a series of experimental drawings layered over black-and-white photographs of Southampton has evolved into a collection of large-scale modular sculptures inviting people to experience shared spaces in new ways. Unlike traditional public artworks, Scribble’s sculptures are intentionally open to interpretation. They can become seating, stages, meeting places, workshop spaces or places to play, depending on how people choose to use them.

Alongside the sculptures, a programme of free events will encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to share ideas about how public spaces might be used.
